On Nightmare Tales
So I am off the exam chart, and with only a project deadline in my immediate future I guess this is a good time as any to provide a post. So I rummaged around to see what has been waiting for my divine attention. What popped up was “Nightmares & Fairy Tales”. It’s a gothic horror comic with heavy fairy tales references. I guess it’s name says the same… Silly, me! The story is about a bizarre doll and what happens to the young girls that come in contact with it. The first two issues are a bit too frantic for my taste (which is hard to accomplish) and Serena Valentino‘s story
is a little hard to follow. Luckily we get a scary flashback (it has nuns and demons) and we go into fairy tales (Snow White, Cinderella) portrayed in wicked goth style. Though the whole thing is a little too girlish for a manly man like me I guess I have a thing for retold tales after I was hit by another franchise based around classic fairy tales some time ago. The art in the first issues has a heavy teenage manga tinge but later with a change in the artist it shifts a gear into the weird and disturbing. I hope it provides me with a bit more solid storyline in the latter issues but for now I will give it a chance. Other than that it is perfect for girls hyped on the Gothic…
